On a very windy and overcast day we welcomed Lesley Nickolds and her team of Surrey Lady Captains to The Nevill Golf Club on 8 June for our annual match where the course was in superb condition. However, the greens were very fast and were a stiff test of technique, ability (and temper) for some, along with the tree-lined fairways in the blustery conditions!
All the staff at The Nevill looked after us very well indeed and our thanks go to them. We were served an excellent meal following our match but the dessert (a large slice of Kentish Apple Cake with Ice Cream), whilst delicious, proved a bit of a challenge for some ladies.
Last year at Burhill we were soundly beaten by the competitive but friendly ladies from Surrey but this year we nearly managed a half, being beaten by just one point 4½ – 3½.
