Match vs Surrey 22nd May

The match against Surrey Lady Captains and Secretaries was held at Mid Sussex Golf Club on Wednesday May 22ndon a lovely warm day which, following our match against the Kent ladies the previous week, was another perfect day for golf.  The Association has been very lucky with the weather for our first two fixtures of the season.

Mid Sussex was in very good condition with many improvements having been made to the course over the last few years which were very evident as the course looked glorious.  All the ladies enjoyed their games, many of which were close, as well as the lovely views of the South Downs.

Surrey are always a strong team of experienced golfers. Several of their pairs had lower handicaps than the Sussex team.  Maybe we feared before the match, despite the stroke allowances, that if they kept out of the numerous bunkers and read the greens well we would find them a tough team to play.  However the Sussex ladies were up to the challenge.  They plotted their way around the course and putted well to defeat the Surrey team.  The result was a win for Sussex 5 games to 3.

It was a very successful and enjoyable day for both teams with some new friendships being made and some old ones revisited.
