The first fixture against another County took place on Monday July 26th in Hampshire. It was a very long day for the Sussex Team, some had to drive for several hours to get there.

However, we were all rewarded with playing a beautiful course in lovely sunshine. Wide fairways and two tiered or undulating greens awaited us. Established in 1914 some of the course was built on the site of a Roman Villa and one hole also had an Iron Age ditch just in front of the green – ready to trap the unwary! There was sufficient breeze to keep us cool, and we had stunning views from most holes across to Winchester.

Unfortunately Sussex were the losing team, the result was 5½ to 2 ½. However this was a closer result than the last game against Hants! Following the game we had a delicious meal, enjoying the company of the other golfers. The Hampshire Captain, Deirdre Randall, made a gracious speech and Rosemary thanked her for Hampshire’s hospitality.
