Match Report Sussex vs Surrey at Walton Heath

May 10, 2018 | 2018 News

On May the 8th Sara Brown (Surrey Captain) welcomed us to Walton Heath Golf Club with the usual coffee and sandwiches.

The sun was shining with just a little breeze to keep us from getting too hot.

After introducing everyone to their playing partners, we set off to find the 1sttee, we’re on the ‘Old Course’, the other being called the ‘New Course’ (only two years difference), a quick practice putt on a green surrounded by rhododendrons in full flower and we’re off.

Margaret Jones from Ifield managed an eagle on the 2ndpar 5, 425 yards helping her and Wendy Melville to win their game. Janet Garbutt and Maureen Briggs, along with Tessa Stockwell and Bali Bassan also had wins, the rest of us didn’t fare so well, finding too much heather and admiring the blue bells, which gave Surrey a win of 5 games to 3.

Afterwards we were treated to a lovely meal in a room full of the club’s history, with photos of past members such as Lloyd George and Winston Churchill.
