Match vs Hampshire @ Copthorne

Jul 11, 2018 | Archives

On Monday the 9thJuly we welcomed the Lady Captain of Hampshire, Sue Oldershaw and her team of ladies to Copthorne Golf club for this years match. Sue lives and plays her golf on the Isle of Wight which involves catching a ferry every time she plays golf on the mainland.

Copthorne, was founded in 1892 and in the 1930’s the course was redesigned by  James Braid, with many other changes having been made over the years including a new extension to the club house which has just been completed. The course is heathland come woodland with tree lined fairways and ditches guarding the greens.

Rosie Chisholm-Hill, Copthorne Lady Captain, kindly started everyone on their way. The course was in excellent condition albeit looking a little dry, allowing the ball to run a few extra yards!!

Again we were blessed with yet another beautiful hot sunny day, with a welcome light breeze to cool us down. A good days golf was had by all with an excellent meal to finish.

Thanks were given to the catering and bar staff for looking after us so well and to all the ladies for taking part. Sue then gave out the result of this friendly competitive match of 5 – 3 in favour of Sussex.
