On Thursday July 11ththe SLC & SGA travelled to Hampshire to play their Association at Waterlooville Golf Club.  It was another hot sunny day, which was lovely, but it was on this occasion a long journey for the team.

Waterlooville Golf Club was established in 1907 as a 9 hole course with just 35 members only 4 of which were ladies.  It was extended to 18 holes in 1946 with the current course having been designed by Sir Henry Cotton.  Most of the fairways were tree lined and some were tricky dog legs so placing the ball was crucial.  The greens were fast so getting the pace was equallyimportant.

As usual all the matches were played in great spirit and it was a most enjoyable day. However the result was disappointing as Sussex lost 1 ½ to 6 ½ .  In defence of a good Sussex team we found that Hants played many higher handicap ladies and having to give in many cases between 9 and 16 shots proved something of a challenge as invariably higher handicap ladies, if not always consistent, are more than capable of playing some good holes.  Equally disappointing was that 4 matches ended with the last putt on the 18thgreen.  The result could so easily have gone either way and we were perhaps unlucky that the overall final result did not look more respectable.
