A very large field of 102 ladies from 23 different clubs met at Ham Manor Golf Club on 5 October to compete in our Autumn Meeting. Play was due to get underway at 10.00 am but a very heavy rain shower put

back the start by 10 minutes. Shortly afterwards the sun came out and stayed with us for the rest of the day.

We welcomed Lynette Chaney, Ham Manor’s Ladies’ Captain, who organised a wine raffle for her Charities: Ferring Country Centre for the Disabled and Lavinia Norfolk Centre at Angmering School. £380 was raised for these organisations and members were thanked for their generosity.

Thanks were extended to Lynette who also acted as starter along with Vice Captain, Jill and we were very grateful to another Ham Manor member, Judy, who gave up her entire day to help our Committee. Gratitude was expressed to Course Marshal, Robert Fell, for ensuring a good place of play with such a large field.

Following the rain throughout September, the course was playing very long. Paul Brown and his team of greenkeepers were thanked for their hard work in producing Ham Manor in such good condition under difficult circumstances and we were all delighted to see some of Paul’s handiwork on the 1st tee where he had painted our logo. We were very well looked after by the bar staff and the catering team who produced an excellent meal which everyone enjoyed after their game and our thanks go to all of them.

The SLC&SGA Committee were thanked for their help, especially Elaine Fell, Hon. Sec. for her superb planning and organisation. This competition is our last event for 2017 – we have some great venues lined up for 2018 so hope to see many of our members at those events next year.

This was a stableford competition played off full handicap with two scores counting on each hole and congratulations go to the winners from Peacehaven: Eileen Ritchie, Margaret Wooll and Jean Shutt with 75 points. In second place Wendy Street, Marilyn Davis and Tessa Stockwell from Cowdray Park with 70 points and in third place Carole Hayward, Rosie Chisholm-Hill and Sandy Flynn from Copthorne with 69 points.
