On Wednesday 23rdMay we were welcomed to ‘The Club at Mapledurham’ by Linda Pitt the Lady Captain of Berkshire. This golf and leisure complex is situated on the border of Berkshire and Oxfordshire, where the parkland course was founded in 1992. For a young golf course it was in excellent condition with some very tricky greens.
It was an early start for Sussex, as most of us had anything up to a two hour plus drive, to get there, so sandwiches and coffee were very welcome on arrival. Luckily no one got lost.
In beautiful sunshine, with a light breeze, everyone enjoyed the course which was followed by ‘after golf’ drinks, a two course dinner with wine on the table and lots of noisy chatter, (maybe that was the wine).
The exchange of thanks to the staff and to all for taking part was said by both captains, with myself giving the result of this friendly competitive match of 5½ – 2½ in favour of Berkshire.
This was a long day for our ladies with another long drive to get home, so I would like to express my thanks once again to all of you for turning out for this marathon.
