We knew Storm Amy was on her way….. but nothing stops the feisty ladies of Sussex taking to the fairways! We welcomed 60 players to Royal Eastbourne Golf Club on Friday for our Autumn Meeting, knowing that everybody would need to dust off their waterproofs after our long fine summer. Clearly there has been more rain in Eastbourne than the rest of the south east – or they’re very good at growing grass – the fairways were lush and damp and took away all that roll we’ve enjoyed for so many months. There weather was not (quite) as bad as was feared, and the drizzle kept serious rain at bay for most of the morning – leaving the players to battle with just the wind and no run! The clubhouse team looked after us all brilliantly, with two lunch sittings to ensure everybody was served quickly after their game. All very well fed and watered, what’s not to love about pistachio and olive crusted chicken supreme followed by crème brulee devoured by yours truly?
The teams battled ‘til the last, it was keenly contested with only 3 points between the top four teams. Congratulations to all the prize winners and thank you to all the players for their (mainly!) good humoured demeanour in far from ideal conditions. Thanks to those members who stepped into the breach when team members were lost, and we very much appreciated Club Captain Richard starting the ladies on the 1st tee. A very special thank you to Gary, Elliot and the whole team at Royal Eastbourne who all worked so hard to make our day special with so much care and attention to detail.
You very generously raised £200 for the local charity Children with Cancer Fund which their Lady Captain is supporting this year.
