Oct 23, 2025 | Latest News

Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun?! Hard to believe my term as your Captain is coming to an end, so a little reflection on the long glorious 2025 golf season before I pack my bags! We’ve hosted six events this year, including an Invitation Meeting for new members and 2025 Lady Captains/Vices as well as played four matches. All of them have been well supported and it’s been great to meet so many of you during the season and welcome new members on board. The teams at Dyke, Sweetwoods, Mid Sussex, Pyecombe and Royal Eastbourne golf clubs all looked after us brilliantly, we really appreciate your support for our Association – thank you.

It was a pleasure to play our 50th match against Sussex Captains at East Brighton, and we were thrilled to retain the trophy for the third year in a row. We were narrowly pipped by Hampshire 3½-4½ in a very tight match at Corhampton, but our resounding 6-2 win against Kent at Piltdown was a great result. In our final match of the year, we played a strong Surrey team at Littlehampton and despite our valiant efforts we lost 3½-5½. So we close the season with 2 wins and 2 losses – all of the matches were keenly contested and played in great spirit, it was an honour to lead our team out – your commitment and enthusiasm really shone through. Thank you to East Brighton, Piltdown and Littlehampton golf clubs for hosting our matches, we really appreciate your support.

We have introduced our new web site and Facebook page to help you stay up to date with what’s happening – make sure you register for access to the web site because from November you will be able to sign up for next season’s events online. Please continue to do everything you can to encourage your club members who are eligible to join and support our Association – it’s only a few pounds each year and a wonderful way to meet up with old friends and make new ones. Don’t forget we give £400 each year to support Sussex Junior Girls, so even if you don’t play in our events you’re making a valuable contribution to the future of women’s golf in Sussex.

The AGM is just around the corner, Mon 3 November at the Charmandean Centre Worthing, it will start c12noon directly after the SCLGA AGM. If you have any proposals or AOB please let Theresa our Admin Sec know by 24/10/25. Do come and join us, we will be asking attendees to vote on potential changes to eligibility for membership so it’s important to have your say. Last year’s minutes and the Agenda are on the web site, and our Accounts will be posted shortly.

It’s been an honour to be your Captain – a huge thank you to our members for making it such a fabulous organisation to be a part of. Your Committee works tirelessly throughout the year to make it special, and it’s been a real pleasure to work with Brenda, Linda B, Carol, Caroline, Jo, Theresa and Linda A – what a team, what a year! Thank you.

Kay Grindell – Captain 2025
