Our first match of the season and we set off westwards to Corhampton to play Hampshire Lady Captains last Monday. A lovely parkland course, one of the oldest in the county, it was founded back in 1891 apparently! Rather unusually, there were 7 par 5’s. Despite the continuing dry weather the course was in lovely condition, tree lined fairways and the narrow approaches to the greens coupled with lots of run undoubtedly presented some challenges.
The match was played in a great spirit of fun, with 7 of the 8 matches going to the 17th and 18th holes. Sadly, we were narrowly pipped at the post 4½-3½ but it was a valiant effort for an away course that none of us had played before. We were provided with a lovely meal afterwards, before saying ‘see you next year at Ham Manor’!
Thank you to very much to Tessa Stockwell and Sue Smith from Cowdray for stepping in at the last minute. The other team members were Wendy Shergold, Brenda Gilbey, Jane Buckley, Karen Parks, Gill Dover, Jane Covey, Janis Kinnear, Sally Heath, Carol Hall, Jane White, Liz Street, Clare Parkinson and Nannette Meeten. Apologies for lack of team pics – forgot all about it with all the fun! Will do better next time.
