Scheduled For Monday 15th September, the President’s Match, together with the Men’s Past Captains should have taken place at Sweetwoods. However, storm ‘Amy’ decided to intervene! This meant postponing the event due to the high winds that were forecast. Health and safety had to prevail.
After eventually finding a suitable date to reschedule, we played the match on Wednesday (22nd October). With a reduced field of 16 ladies and 16 men, Phil Williamson (Men’s President) and I calculated (and recalculated) the shots for the Greensomes format stableford.
The Winning pair were Angela Smith and Peter O’Neill with 36 points, closely contested by Clare Parkinson and Phil Manser with a score of 35 points (on count back!)
How lucky were we to pick the only small window of good weather in a very wet and windy week! The sun shone all day, although the course conditions were challenging, due to the rainfall of the previous three days.
Thanks go especially to 4 players that were drafted in to play, due to the original players being on holiday. Not only that, but two of the ladies from Cuckfield, were in the winning groups.
Thanks also go to Sweetwoods for offering a suitable alternative date, along with excellent catering on the day.
It goes without saying, a big thank you to Phil Williamson who managed to gather his merry men to team up with the ladies. A really good fun day and a great one to finish on, being my Swansong!
