Summer Round Up

Sep 2, 2025 | Latest News

We’ve been blessed with lots of warm sunny golf this summer, and all of our events have been well supported and played in great weather (so far, don’t speak too soon!) It’s been a busy season for ‘Caps & Secs’ – and we’ve still got three events to play, so I’ll be seeing many of you again before the season is out.

We’ve still got room for a few more teams for our Autumn Meeting which is being played at Royal Eastbourne GC on Friday 3rd October. It’s a fun format, best 2 from 3, and only costs £45 including prizes and a delicious two course meal. One of the teams playing is now one person short, so if you’d like to play but don’t have a team we have a team hoping someone will join them. Event details are on the website, contact our Competition Secretary Caroline slcsgacompsec@gmail.com

We hope you’re enjoying our new look website with all the news and pics from this season. There are further enhancements on the way which we hope will mean more members using the website going forwards. Our ‘new for 2025’ Facebook page is also full of news, results, photos and info for our members – make sure you Follow us on Facebook for the latest posts.

We’ve played 3 matches so far this season – Hampshire away at Corhampton (narrowly losing 4.5 – 3.5), Sussex Captains at East Brighton (delighted to say we won for the third year in a row 6.5 – 4.5), and most recently we hosted Kent lady Captains at Piltdown (a very satisfying 6 – 2 win on a tough course). We will be hosting our match against Surrey at Littlehampton later this month. We have been fortunate in being able to increase the team size for two of these fixtures to provide more playing opportunities. We’re also testing a few changes to the way we run matches after feedback from our survey earlier in the year, with a number of respondents saying match days are very long, especially for away matches. Key changes include encouraging shared travel, advising the team of their playing partner and tee times in advance, and dispensing with the ‘arrive early for meet and greet welcome speeches’ – this way players later in the field can arrive much nearer their tee times. We have rolling food afterwards so there is less hanging around waiting for the final matches to finish. So far these changes have been well received. With one more home match to go, the Committee will review prior to planning next season’s matches. We welcome feedback if you’ve played in any matches this year.

It’s renewal time again (does it come round faster each year?) and you should have heard from us, usually via your club reps. Please do everything you can to spread the ‘Caps & Secs’ message at your club – the continuing success of our wonderful Association is reliant on Past Captains staying on board, and them encouraging their successors to get involved. Our research earlier in the year found that a number of new Lady Captains weren’t aware of the association, what we do, or the fact they can join for just a few pounds. Aside from providing a busy calendar of matches and meetings, meeting old friends and making new ones, we give a substantial donation each year to Sussex Girls golf to help support and grow the game.

Your committee is currently finalising the 2026 Calendar, and handbooks will be available at the AGM Monday 3rd November. We look forward to seeing you at our last few events of the year, and welcome your attendance at the AGM.
