CAPTAIN’S WELCOME

Kay Grindell

Captain 2025

Welcome to our Association’s web site.

I have the honour to be this year’s Captain and look forward to meeting and playing with many of you during the year.

Our Association was formed in 1962, and sixty three years later we’re going strong with lots on offer to our 350+ members. Membership is open to Sussex club members who have been a Captain or Secretary of any golf club – not just in Sussex – so please encourage anyone who is eligible to join the Association and get involved so we can continue to flourish.

We have a great programme of matches and events lined up for 2025 and welcome everyone to join in – details are in the handbook and Fixtures & Entry Forms section here on the web site. Our events offer great value for money, and you’ll find a warm friendly atmosphere and it’s a great opportunity to meet old friends as well as make new ones. Golf is such a fantastic and inclusive game for everyone, however frustrating it can be – see you out there in 2025!

Autumn meeting 2nd October 2023

Our Autumn meeting this year was held at Copthorne Golf Club. We had a very large field teeing off from the 1st and 10th tees and were delighted to see that Sussex Past Captains who are members of Copthorne acted as starters and ball spotters which was a great help in speeding up the game.

The winning team ( pictured) were Kay Grindell – The Dyke, Anne Carnegie – Littlehampton, Caroline Hawkes – Chichester with a very good score of 84 (best two scores to count). Final results are here.
A huge thank you to Joanna Greenstreet for all her organising skills and Caroline Angella for her invaluable help, sorting out the results from such a large field was not easy.
.
Copthorne Lady Captain raised £345 for her charity the local hospice.

SLC&SGA vs Berks 18th September 2023

Our last match of the season was played at Crowborough Beacon against Berkshire. The weather forecast for the day wasn’t looking good, but the weather men/women can get it wrong sometimes!!! Unfortunately on this occasion they hadn’t. The rain was torrential and the eighteenth fairway was beginning to look as though the course would not be playable. I eventually coerced the club Secretary and he agreed to us taking later tee times and whilst we were enjoying lunch the rain eased and the match began, most of us enjoyed some sunshine on the course, the vagaries of the British summer. Unfortunately, Sussex lost the match 4 and 3 albeit I know several of the matches went to the eighteenth and Carol Hall representing Sussex had a hole in one at the thirteenth. Following the match we enjoyed a delicious meal and I wished everyone a safe journey home.
