On one of the hottest June days ever recorded, 66 ladies met at Crowborough Beacon GC for my President’s Day. Fortunately, I’d persuaded the Club Chairman to let us have a two tee start.
Promptly at 9am the first group were welcomed on to the 1st tee by club captain John Toyne acting as the starter. Those playing from the 10th had the pleasure of Neil Barrington-Johnson as their starter.
The green staff had prepared the course well and even ironed the greens. I know I’m a tad biased but the course did look quite spectacular and I understand from most of the competitors that they found the course and the views impressive, though apparently the balls would not go where they were supposed to. Once the balls hit the fairway or greens they were gone to who knows where as it was so hot and dry as we could tell by the scores we were seeing. Once everyone returned to the clubhouse, cool showers and iced drinks were the order of the day. After golf we all enjoyed a delicious buffet and cool desserts.
